Dr. Shawna Welcomes Red Into Her Home

At first, I didn’t want to get a pet. But my partner’s persistence paid off. He did a great job of convincing me with cute puppy photos … and telling me how great of a hiking and walking companion a dog would be.

So I gave in – and I’m glad I did. Our puppy Red is a great addition to our home.

Red is an Australian labradoodle. If you’re unfamiliar with the breed, that’s a cross between the poodle and Labrador retriever. He kind of looks like a real-life teddy bear. Red was born was May 24th, 2018 and we brought him home on July 19, 2018.

There’s an interesting story behind his name … My partner’s brother named his dog Blue to show his loyalty to the Toronto Maple Leafs. We chose Red for the Calgary Flames. You could say there’s some canine rivalry happening!

What’s great about our puppy? Red is a hypoallergenic dog, which means he is a better choice for people with allergies. And he doesn’t shed any fur – that’s a bonus when it comes to keeping the house clean!

Sometimes he’s full of energy, other times he just wants to sleep. I enjoy taking Red to the dog park for walks. I try to give him cuddles, but he doesn’t want any of that! He loves eating (especially peanut butter!), chewing, and biting.

Being able to go for a walk with my furry friend after a full day of improving smiles at West Wind Dental is now one of my favourite activities. I’m happy I warmed up to the idea of getting a dog, and now that we have him, I won’t ever let him go!
